The study of prices actually achieved reveals that increases slowed dramatically in Chania between 2012-2017, where an affordability threshold seems to have been reached in the second half of 2016.

Price inflation has also fallen to around 12.4%  in some areas but in some other areas of Chania there have been some significant increases in the same period, an indication that the property market is still wildly out of kilter.

However, the fact that price increases have significantly slowed in Crete last year, traditionally one of the country’s most expensive areas, and in Chania, where a large number of new hotels and villas are being built, is the first sign that the property market may be starting to stabilize.
